The fact things are so simple these days that that’s amazing because realism/simplicity of using things. As you collect Bots, you will return to your home base, a sand planet where your PS5 ship crashed, which is full of its own manner of secrets you can access as you get more and more Bots to help you. Out in space, you will run into hidden challenge levels like arena fights and pretty difficult death-defying one-life runs gauntlet that are the hardest content in an otherwise very chill game. I mean, it is meant to be for kids, as much as adults can enjoy it. Though completing levels will spawn new ones within the same solar system, there are also hidden mini-levels.
But that’s not the only way Astro Bot celebrates history, as that idea is also directly tied to the game’s collectibles. In every level, there are a number of bots to rescue and puzzle pieces to find. Puzzle pieces help reveal new features in your base at the crash site, like costumes. Saving bots brings them to your base, but having more bots also lets you solve puzzles around the crash site. But what’s really interesting is that roughly 160 of the game’s 300 bots are themed on past PlayStation games, wearing adorable little costumes.
It does but that’s just recycling mechanics or aspects from those games, it’s not that original, it doesn’t fill in gaps those games don’t offer either regardless of platformer then horror, RPG or open world contexts. 10/10 — OutstandingThe pinnacle of a given genre at the time of release, these titles raise the bar in virtually all critical categories. Just like Astro’s Playroom, Astro Bot is a 3D puzzle-platformer that pays homage to PlayStation history and makes heavy use of the PS5 DualSense controller’s many unique features like haptic feedback and dynamic triggers. However, this time, we’re getting a full-length game (with no microtransactions) that’s much bigger than Astro’s previous adventures. Team Asobi releases a new update for Astro Bot, adding the final level and cameo from the previously announced Vicious Void Galaxy DLC. The game’s popularity has continued well into this year, after becoming one of the surprise hits of 2024. Not only has Astro Bot claimed a bunch of industry awards and game of the year titles, but it continues to keep players coming back with new DLC levels as well.
Most of the Astro Bot cameo characters are pretty easy to identify, but there are a few VIP Bots who are obscure and thus can be difficult to place. But utilizing the uniqueness of hardware is something that Team Asobi has always been good at – arguably more than any other PlayStation studio. Beating Astro Bot’s main story took me about 10 hours, while getting the Platinum trophy took a little over 15 hours.
Bug free and fun does not meet a 10 score, which I was perfectly capable of assessing at age 10. Then hopefully Sony realise that fun, original, innovative single player experiences have a place in today’s world. Older platformers ideas WERE experimental, STILL ARE FRESH/UNIQUE in the genre, no one wants to copy them, expand on them, make their own mechanics like them. Insomniac just pissing on the floor with Rift Apart over Crack in Time’s built up dramatic change of the formula & pathetic rift feature that Crack built up as a start on an HDD. Many that the Indies even are inspired by all feel bland, & why because the level design is eh, the movesets are pathetic & to be honest they don’t have the talent & their inspiration is just weak.

It’s a highlight of how great Astro Bot’s level design is, which easily ranks high among other action platforming gems with its reasonably hidden secrets and gravity-challenging stages. Still, Astro Bot fails to feel as revolutionary or varied as games that pushed the genre, like Super Mario Odyssey. While the game has many exhilarating moments, Astro Bot’s desire to showcase PlayStation gear and characters can feel like it’s holding the game back from being something unique. These special cameo bots are rescued from the galaxies’ main boss fights, which are a real highlight of the experience. Like the rest of the game, Astro Bot bosses are inventive, defying player expectations while still rooted in 3D platformer tradition.
There are a few things we need to cover to understand the online reaction to Astro Bot. The first is the role that video games play in many people’s lives. Not just one of the best games this year, but one of the best playstation titles. When it’s all done I’m left with that strange feeling of being very well cared for.
I mean, when there are so many collectibles and elements going on, it may seem like a lot. As I had a head start on playing the title (and absolutely loved it), I’m here to relay eight tips and tricks that’ll make your playthrough that much more fun. A good game is a good game yes, but a game that may appeal to one person will not appeal to another. However reviews and scores you would think would then be balanced. I disagree that a platform game, however good, is a perfect score.
